Background
“Sunshine Everywhere” began as a set of guitar and synthesiser improvisations, recorded over five days in June 2018. The loose elements quickly suggested a four-part structure and developed into a complex suite across 240 recording tracks. Immediately compelling, the music is as familiar as it is unusual, building from a hypnotic vocal development and moving through a variety of contrasting moods and genres, including progressive rock, electronic indie, jazz fusion, tech house, new wave, dub, electro-funk, cinematic and experimental.

Each part has its own distinctive character: the vocal acrobatics and expressive melodic synth-polyrhythm interplays of “Part I: Sunshine” gives way to the haunting, atmospheric fusion keyboard, trumpet and bass of “Part II: Eclipse”, before exploding into the kinetic guitar and synth groove cycles of “Part III: Celebration Day”. The piece concludes with “Part IV: UV Burn”, an unexpectedly catchy blend of interweaving rhythms, scorching outbursts and poignant melodies that ultimately arrives at some form of equilibrium, albeit one coloured with nostalgia and regret. A life in a day.
